Press Release from Longines EEF Series | Report: Eleanore Kelly

Belgium produced a polished team performance to win the first Semi-Final of the 2026 Longines EEF Series at Peelbergen in the Netherlands, securing qualification for September’s Final in Avenches (SUI) alongside Sweden, Spain, France and Great Britain.

Finishing on just six penalties after two demanding rounds over Bart Vonck’s 1.50m track, Belgium finished comfortably ahead of Sweden on 13 faults and Spain on 19, with France fourth on 21 and Great Britain claiming the final qualifying spot on 30 penalties. Norway suffered the disappointment of missing qualification by a single penalty, while host nation the Netherlands and guest nation Mexico, although competing, were ineligible to qualify from this Semi-Final.

Now in its sixth season, the Longines EEF Series has become one of Europe’s most important development pathways, designed to prepare emerging combinations for senior championship competition including European Championships, World Championships and Olympic Games. The format allows riders to gain invaluable experience in a team environment while developing promising horses at international level, making it a cornerstone of the European Jumping calendar.

Peelbergen hosted a Longines EEF Series Semi-Final for the first time, having previously staged Region West qualifiers since first joining the Series in 2021. The Dutch venue continues to strengthen its reputation on the international calendar, having hosted the European Youth Championships in 2024 and preparing to welcome the FEI Jumping Nations Cup Youth Final later this year.

Twelve nations lined up at the Dutch venue, with five teams from Region West and five from Region North chasing five coveted qualification places for the Final. Belgium, France, Spain, Great Britain and Portugal represented Region West, while Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland and Poland qualified from Region North.

Belgium’s victory was built on consistency across both rounds, with three riders producing faultless second rounds as the pressure mounted. Vonck’s technical course proved influential throughout the day, with its substantial oxers and demanding treble combination causing problems across the field, while Peelbergen’s square arena required horses to stay balanced through numerous tight turns.

The standout Belgian performance came from Gudrun Patteet and the 10-year-old Belgian-bred gelding Sea Coast Qarvaljo d’Or, who produced one of only two double clear performances of the competition. This lovely chestnut is owned by  Ruben De Grave and Sea Coast Horses. The only other combination to achieve the feat was Norway’s Mira Oliva Hoeidal and Mayfair.

“I am really happy but it is not only me who makes the result,” said Patteet. “I am really happy with my horse and happy that I could do that for the team.”

Competing in only his second Nations Cup, the Mosito van het Hellehof gelding gained another valuable step in his education. “I was quite relaxed but the horse really wants to go clear, but it is really nice for him that he can get experiences like this. So for that, these Nations Cups are really important.”

The decisive moment came when Belgium’s anchor athlete, reigning European individual bronze medallist Gilles Thomas, delivered a superb second-round clear aboard the nine-year-old Belgian-bred stallion Riesling van’t Roosakker owned by T Roosakker Stables. After four faults in the opening round, the world number five returned to produce the performance that confirmed Belgium’s victory.

Thomas, who has developed several young horses through the EEF Series, highlighted the value of the competition’s two-round format.

“It was a very good thing to have not only for the horses but also for the riders. For the combination to get experience. It is ideal when you have not a good feeling in the first round, you can try to do better in the second round. At other shows you have to wait a few weeks to get a new chance but at these you can get more experience in the second round. That is why I love to do these shows.”

Riding last brought its own pressure, but one Thomas relishes. “It is nice to ride for Belgium – normally when we go for Nations Cups we have the chance to win, so I like to ride in these Nations Cups and then if the result is there it is even nicer.”

The Series’ commitment to developing future talent is reflected in the requirement for every nation to field an Under-25 athlete. Belgium’s 24-year-old Roy van Beek justified his selection with an excellent second-round clear aboard the nine-year-old Charleston-H owned by Johannes Heinrichs. After collecting two time penalties in round one, he adjusted his approach to produce exactly the round his team needed.

“For me it is very nice to get this chance in the three-star. I started last year also and it gave me the chance to step up to the five-star Nations Cups, so I think it is very important to go up in this way. I was a bit disappointed with the penalties in the first round – I took a stride too many, so I changed my plan in the second round and it worked out in a good way.”

Although Koen Vereecke endured a difficult day with Quinoa de la Liniere- owned and bred by Jeroen Lissens, recording scores of eight and 12 faults, the experienced Belgian was quick to acknowledge the strength of the team around him. “Lucky, I had really good teammates,” he laughed.

Assessing Bart Vonck’s track, Vereecke said: “I think it was a good course – not extremely big but with wide oxers. The arena is not always easy to ride because it is square, you have to turn a lot, so it is difficult for horses to stay balanced and concentrated. We saw that today: there were lots of faults, but a bit everywhere. Not that there were killers in, but it was tough for both horses and riders. It was a good course, and I believe the time was not too short. In the end it is a part of it – time becomes more and more part of the shows.”

Belgium Chef d’Equipe Filip Lacus praised the depth available to Belgian jumping while acknowledging the challenge of team selection.

“We have lots of riders willing to ride Nations Cups. We always try to make competitive teams to make sure to qualify – that is why we were here, for the Final. There were lots of riders but, in the end, everybody needs to get involved to make sure they do well.”

Asked whether Belgium could become the first nation from Regions West or North to win the Longines EEF Series Final in Avenches, Lacus was optimistic. “For sure we’ll try! And for the riders, we will figure that out in the coming weeks.”

With the first five qualification places now decided, attention turns to the second Semi-Final in Samorin, Slovakia, on 10 July, where teams from the South and Central regions will battle for the remaining places in September’s Final in Avenches. Peelbergen once again demonstrated exactly what the Longines EEF Series was created to achieve: developing riders, horses and partnerships capable of succeeding on the biggest international stages while delivering fiercely competitive Nations Cup sport.

Peelbergen Equestrian Centre is proud to announce a new partnership with Carr&Day&Martin, bringing one of the equestrian world’s most established horse care brands into the heart of the Peelbergen experience throughout the 2026 season.

The partnership officially launches during the CSI2* Grand Prix presented by Carr&Day&Martin on Saturday 13 June, marking the beginning of a summer filled with rider activations, groom recognition initiatives and interactive product experiences at Peelbergen.

One of the highlights of the collaboration will be the arrival of the Carr&Day&Martin Gallop Shampoo Bar at Peelbergen’s washing areas. Already a familiar feature at major international shows such as Wellington, the Gallop Shampoo Bar gives riders and grooms the opportunity to wash their horses using Carr&Day&Martin products directly on site, while receiving guidance from the brand team on selecting the best products for their horses’ needs.

For those wanting to continue the experience at home, Carr&Day&Martin products are also available year-round at Emmers Equestrian, right outside the Peelbergen gates.

The partnership places a strong emphasis on recognising the work of grooms, something both Peelbergen and Carr&Day&Martin see as essential to the future of the sport.

Throughout the season, the groom of the winner of every Carr&Day&Martin class, as well as the groom of each CSI2* and CSIO3* Grand Prix winner at Peelbergen, will automatically be entered into a special end-of-season prize draw. One lucky groom will ultimately be selected to receive a collection of Carr&Day&Martin products and prizes in collaboration with Emmers Equestrian.

“We’ve been very lucky to partner with brands that like to think big, and that is always refreshing,” said Ken Ruysen, Managing Director at Peelbergen Equestrian Centre. “As partners of the International Grooms Association, we know the conversation around grooms goes far beyond simply giving prizes: it’s about recognition, support, and creating visibility for the people who work tirelessly behind the scenes every day.

To see partners becoming actively involved with grooms, and not only riders, is a real sign that the sport is moving in the right direction. Carr&Day&Martin wanted to use this initiative to shine a light on the people behind the performances, and we cannot wait to see grooms featured on social media and celebrated during prize givings throughout the season.

Being able to add something that makes shows more engaging and enjoyable for grooms truly is the cherry on top.”

Peelbergen and Prestige are joining forces this August to create a special opportunity for young riders, as the Prestige Youth Cup comes to the Pro Tour at Peelbergen Equestrian Centre from 6-8 August, that for this occasion will be powered by Prestige.

The Prestige Youth Cup itself will feature one exclusive Prestige-sponsored class during the Pro Tour, welcoming a maximum of 40 starters. Riders will compete in full Prestige equipment, with every participant receiving an official Prestige Youth Cup kit including a saddle pad, ear bonnet, t-shirt, and cap. The winner will take home a Prestige saddle, while the top ten riders will receive Prestige accessories and awards.

But what truly makes this project stand out is what happens after the competition: the top six riders will earn access to an exclusive clinic with Henrik von Eckermann.

The involvement of Henrik von Eckermann makes this Prestige Youth Cup particularly meaningful. Beyond being one of the greatest riders of his generation, Henrik has long demonstrated a genuine commitment to supporting younger athletes. A familiar face at Peelbergen through his regular participation in international competitions, he also played an important role during the opening ceremony of the FEI European Championship for Youth held at Peelbergen in 2024, where he spoke directly to the next generation about the realities, challenges, and values of the sport.

For Peelbergen, supporting young riders has never been about ticking a box. It is part of the identity of the venue. We host Young Riders Academy clinics and selections, organize dedicated youth competitions throughout the year, and regularly create opportunities for younger riders to learn from some of the best athletes in the world. During our CSI Youth in November, clinics with top riders are often included as special prizes because we believe experiences like these can shape a rider far beyond one result in the ring.

The sport needs spaces where young riders feel encouraged, seen, and inspired. It needs initiatives that focus not only on competition, but also on education and growth. By giving ambitious riders access to top-level facilities, international competition, and mentorship from elite athletes, Peelbergen aims to help shape the future of showjumping while preserving the values and spirit of the sport.

That is why this partnership with Prestige feels so natural.

Both Peelbergen and Prestige share the same belief: investing in the next generation is investing in the future of the sport itself.

So this August, the Prestige Youth Cup will bring more than sport to Peelbergen, it will combine sport, education, inspiration, and unforgettable memories in the unique atmosphere of Peelbergen.

Entries open on July 20th!

  • 2nd place: 29.0 points

Peelbergen kicks off 2026 with a major announcement: a new partnership with Maya Delorez, the innovative Swedish equestrian brand.

Starting 1 January 2026, Maya Delorez becomes the official arena name partner of the Grass Arena, marking Peelbergen’s first-ever grass arena name partnership.

This milestone comes as Peelbergen expands its outdoor calendar, with more international CSI competitions taking place on grass than ever before. Confirmed events include: 7–9 May, 11–13 June, 13–15 August, 3–5 September, and the highlight of the season: the CSIO3* Longines EEF Series Semifinal on 2-5 July.

As part of the agreement, Maya Delorez will also be one of the main sponsors of the CSIO3* Longines EEF Series Semifinal, which will feature a CSIO3* class presented by Maya Delorez.

Beyond the arena, the partnership also reflects Maya Delorez’s integration into Emmers, allowing riders and visitors to shop the brand’s collection directly at Emmers Peelbergen. Throughout the season, competitors will also get the chance to experience the brand firsthand, as Maya Delorez will award class winners with their gear at various CSI events.

“We’re thrilled to start 2026 by welcoming Maya Delorez as a key partner,” said Managing Director Ken Ruysen. “It is a young, fresh brand; they take on as ambassadors upcoming talents we know well, like Mans and Mel Thijssen, or Megan Laseur, and we share that same vision to support the future generation and growth of the sport.”

The European Equestrian Federation (EEF) has confirmed that the Peelbergen Equestrian Centre will host the Longines EEF Series Semifinal for Regions West and North from 2026 to 2030. The news comes as the EEF announced the official competition calendar for the 2026 Longines EEF Series earlier today. This new role underlines Peelbergen’s growing importance within European show jumping and is a proud moment for Dutch equestrian sport.

Peelbergen has been part of the Longines EEF Series since its early years, organizing several successful qualifying rounds that brought together national teams from across Europe. Being selected to host the semifinal is a natural next step and a sign of confidence from the EEF in the venue’s organization and facilities.

“We’re very proud to see Peelbergen take on this new role,” said Ken Ruysen, Managing Director of Peelbergen Equestrian Centre. “This is fantastic news for both Peelbergen and for Dutch show jumping, and for everyone involved, from our team to the riders, federations, and partners who have supported these events over the years. To host a semifinal of the Longines EEF Series is a true honor and a reflection of the dedication and professionalism of our entire team.”

The announcement comes after several strong years of international competition at Peelbergen, including the FEI European Championships for Youth 2024, which drew widespread positive feedback from riders and federations alike. Together with the Longines EEF Series and its busy year-round calendar, these events have helped Peelbergen establish itself as a reliable venue for both athletes and organizers.

The first Longines EEF Series Semifinal in Peelbergen will be held 2–5 July 2026, with teams from the West and North regions competing for a place in the series final.

“This appointment is not just a reward for what we have achieved, but also an encouragement to keep raising the bar,” added Ruysen. “We are proud to contribute to the growth of the Longines EEF Series and to the visibility of Dutch equestrian sport in Europe.”
