First place for the Dutch team at the 2025 Longines EEF Series Nations Cup in Peelbergen, marking the second consecutive win for the Netherlands at this venue – this time with a completely different lineup from their 2024 triumph.

The team, composed of Bas Moerings & Kivinia (0/0), Sanne Thijssen & Cupcake Z (0/9), Gert Jan Bruggink & Vigalio Sho Z (13/8), and Mel Thijssen & Juice (0/0), finished with a total of 8 faults under the lead of Chef d’Équipe Vincent Voorn. Belgium took second place with 12 faults, just ahead of Great Britain, ending on 16. The pressure remained intense until the very end. Only 1 point separated The Netherlands from Ireland (9 faults to 8), up until Irish rider David Simpson’s elimination in the final round. After this, 24yo Mel Thijssen, the last rider in this Nations Cup, had to produce a clear or one-fault round to secure the win and avoid a jump-off with Belgium. She delivered flawlessly, sealing the Dutch win.

Q: We break the ice with the man of the moment: Vincent. Same venue, different team: it’s a win two years in a row here in Peelbergen, congratulations! With the team leading on 0 penalties after the first round, just ahead of Ireland with 4, what was your strategy to maintain the lead?

Vincent Voorn:
I think it is always difficult when you are on the first round, everything goes according to plan, and you end up on zero. Of course it is a very nice feeling because you have a bit of an advantage, but it also puts on the pressure.

We had lots of good riders and good horses here, and it’s never done until the very last round. That was obvious today. We had a few little mistakes in the second round, some pity faults from Sanne, then Gert Jan was a bit unlucky on the water, but that put the pressure on directly. Bas was great, his horse jumped phenomenally and he rode according to plan. Mel also rode great, Juice jumped fantastic. I’m very proud of the guys and girls, they did a very good job.

Q: Vincent, you talked about pressure. Until Ireland’s very last round there was just a point separating you from the Irish team. What were your thoughts, did you tell Mel something specific before her round?

Vincent Voorn:
No, I just said do your own thing, try to do the same as the first round. Focus on yourself, that’s the only thing you can do, isn’t it? Making it more complicated before you go in the ring, it only makes it worse. You try to keep it simple and keep the confidence up. She has a very good horse, the clear was in the back of my head.

Q: Moving on to Mel then and Sanne, you two are family, you compete here quite often and you are based in Sevenum, just minutes away. What does it mean for you to compete together, to win together, does it feel a bit like a home win but a family win as well?

Mel Thijssen:
To me it feels more like a team win actually. A win more for the Dutch team than for my family, but it is definitely great to compete together. This is really a home show, it couldn’t be closer to home than this!

I don’t think it is ever simple, whether you are first or last. I knew I had to jump clear, but I tried not to put too much pressure on myself to ride well. I had a good feeling in the first round and felt steady for the second.

Sanne Thijssen:
I totally agree! Of course it is really nice that we are a family in a team. It makes it a little bit more special, but we have a really nice team with the four of us, so it felt really great to win with these people.

Q: Gert Jan, after a challenging first round, what were your thoughts heading into the second, and how did you manage the pressure?

Gert Jan Bruggink:
I tried to do my best to get a good round. I felt the fault on the water but the second I did not even hear, when I finished I saw 8 and I said “oh, where was that one?”. But ok, it can happen. Anyway, thank you to the team for the help!

Q: Last but not least Bas, you have a wonderful horse. Kivinia has been a standout partner for you. I read that after the 4* win in Maastricht last year you called her a Formula 1 horse, and I guess that’s still the case. How does it feel to get a double clear in this Nations Cup with a homebred mare?

Bas Moerings:
It is really nice, it is the very first Nations Cup she ever jumped. She is turning 10 this year and she is coming into this level really steadily, very consistent. She is quite fast, very good at improvising. I am always happy to go in first, because (with her) then you have a bit more of a safety net if you have a line where you question the distance. That is why I felt quite confident going in as the first rider.

Q: And it worked out amazingly, congratulations to everyone.

Today marks the official start of a thrilling week of international show jumping at Peelbergen Equestrian Centre, as we proudly host the second and final West Regional Qualifier of the 2025 Longines EEF Series. From May 22–25, our world-class venue becomes the proving ground for twelve top nations, with Semi-Final qualification and future Series glory on the line.

As a CSIO3* event, this qualifier is the final opportunity for teams in the West Region to earn crucial points towards advancing to the Semi-Finals, and ultimately the Series Final in Avenches, Switzerland.

The spotlight will be on Friday, May 23 at 15:00, when the Longines EEF Series Nations Cup (1.50m) takes center stage. Teams from Belgium, Spain, France, Great Britain, Ireland, and Portugal will battle it out for ranking points, while the Netherlands, our home team and last year’s Peelbergen champions, return to defend their title in front of a home crowd.

Also joining the action are visiting teams from Canada, Sweden, Brazil, Germany, and Turkey (via FEI Wild Card), adding an extra layer of excitement to what promises to be a high-stakes, high-caliber competition.

In addition to the Nations Cup and Sunday’s CSIO3* Grand Prix (1.55m) at 14:00, this week’s schedule reflects Peelbergen’s commitment to fostering both elite and emerging talent. Alongside the 3* classes, we’re offering 1* & Young Horses classes, and a special Show Class for 4- and 5-year-olds, showcasing the future stars of the sport.

What Is the Longines EEF Series?

Now in its fifth season, the Longines EEF Series is Europe’s leading Nations Cup circuit for developing show jumping talent. The format—two rounds over identical courses, Table A against the clock, with four riders per team and the best three scores counting—gives riders critical experience in team competition at the 3* and 4* levels. In case of a tie, a thrilling jump-off determines the winner.

Peelbergen is proud to contribute to the Series’ mission of developing future champions and strengthening national programs across the continent.

We invite everyone to join us this week for four days of incredible sport, team spirit, and international competition. Full schedule and updates can be found at: www.peelbergen.eu/longines-eef-series-peelbergen-2025

April 9, 2025 – Peelbergen, The Netherlands

From May 22 to 25, the Peelbergen Equestrian Centre will once again host the Longines EEF Series CSIO3* Regional Qualifier for the West Region—an event that has become a key date on the international jumping calendar.

With entries now open and the schedule published, preparations are underway for what promises to be a busy and competitive week. Alongside the CSIO3*, Peelbergen will also run a CSI1* and CSIYH*, open to all riders. The combination gives professionals and up-and-coming athletes alike a chance to compete at a high level in an international setting.

For CSIO3* riders, the format offers flexibility: they’re able to bring three additional horses in the CSI1* and three young horses in the CSIYH* classes. It’s a practical way to give younger horses experience in a top international setting while still focusing on 3* classes.

“The setup works really well,” says Ken Ruysen, Peelbergen’s Managing Director. “It supports the sport on multiple levels. Riders aiming for Nations Cup points can also work their younger horses, and we give other riders the opportunity to be part of a top-level weekend.”

The National Federations belonging to the LES West Region include Andorra, Belgium, Spain, France, Great Britain, Ireland, Luxembourg and Portugal, all competing for a place in the 2025 Series Final in Avenches, Switzerland. In addition to the regional teams, several invited nations will join the CSIO3*, and an FEI Wild Card team will also be announced in the coming weeks. In the past, teams from Argentina, Australia, the USA, and Canada have competed in Peelbergen, bringing an extra layer of international interest to the event.

Last year in Peelbergen, France topped the podium, while Italy went on to win the Series Final in Warsaw. This year, competition is expected to be just as tight. Teams are selected by their federations and field four riders, with the best three scores counting per round over a two-round Nations Cup format.

The Longines EEF Series is now in its fifth season and continues to focus on development—of riders, horses, and national teams—while still offering serious competition and a clear pathway to top sport. Peelbergen’s leg is consistently one of the strongest in terms of participation and atmosphere.

More updates, including team selections and side events, will follow soon. In the meantime, entries are open for the CSIO3*, CSI1* and CSIYH*, and riders interested in taking part can find the full schedule and entry details here: www.peelbergen.eu/longines-eef-series-peelbergen-2025

March 22, 2025 – Peelbergen, The Netherlands

Last Friday evening, Peelbergen Equestrian Centre was the stage for an inspiring night of sports and solidarity during the first-ever Gladiators Boxing Gala Horst aan de Maas. This remarkable event successfully raised an impressive €66,650 for the future children’s hospice Kwatro.

The evening featured a series of thrilling boxing matches where local entrepreneurs, as well as Mayor Ryan Palmen and Alderman Roy Bouten, stepped into the ring for a good cause. In an electrifying atmosphere, they faced off against local opponents, all united by a shared goal: raising as much money as possible for Kwatro.

A Beacon of Hope for Seriously Ill Children

Kwatro, set to be established on Venrayseweg in Horst, aims to bring light and comfort to seriously ill children and their families. Thanks to generous contributions from sponsors and donors, both in the venue and from home, the hospice is now one step closer to becoming a reality.

Proud to Support the Community

Peelbergen Equestrian Centre is proud to have hosted such a successful first edition of the gala. Ken Ruysen, Event Director at Peelbergen, highlighted the importance of this initiative: “We are incredibly proud to have facilitated this event and to contribute to such a meaningful cause in our region. This event showcases the strength of our community when we come together for a greater purpose.”

With an outstanding result and an inspiring atmosphere, we are already looking forward to a potential follow-up of the Gladiators Boxing Gala. Peelbergen Equestrian Centre remains committed to supporting initiatives that have a positive impact on the region and its residents.

March 18, 2025 – Peelbergen, The Netherlands

Peelbergen Equestrian Centre is honored to once again serve as the venue for the Young Riders Academy (YRA) selection and clinics for 2025. Today marks the conclusion of the two-day selection process, where 22 aspiring riders from 13 nations showcased their talents and dedication to the sport.

A Comprehensive Selection Process

The selection process is meticulously designed to evaluate not only the riders’ jumping capabilities but also their foundational skills and professional attributes. On the first day, candidates competed over 1.40m to 1.50m courses with two horses, allowing the selection committee to assess their style, technique, and decision-making under pressure. The second day focused on flatwork and warm-up routines, where evaluators analyzed each rider’s position, balance, influence, focus, and adaptability. This approach ensures that participants possess solid foundations beyond jumping.

Beyond technical skills, the selection panel also considers the riders’ mindset, professionalism, communication abilities, and potential for growth. By the end of today, the committee will select the top 5 to 8 riders based on their jumping results, personal profiles, and horse availability. These selected individuals will return to Peelbergen later this year for specialized clinics aimed at furthering their development.

Supporting the Future of Equestrian Sport

At Peelbergen Equestrian Centre, we take immense pride in supporting young athletes and are honored to be the trusted home base for the Young Riders Academy. Our commitment to nurturing emerging talent aligns seamlessly with YRA’s mission to cultivate the next generation of equestrian professionals.
